There’s something special about August. It’s the month many people look forward to all year round to switch off, enjoy a change of scenery and forget about the clock. However, it’s also often the month of crowded beaches, traffic-jammed roads and accommodation that’s impossible to book.

Whilst others tailor their holidays around a hotel, you can tailor your trip to whatever takes your fancy each day. If the heat gets too much, head for the mountains. If you discover a village you fall in love with, stay for one more night. If the sea is just perfect, make the afternoon last a bit longer without a thought for the return journey.
The freedom of not having a fixed destination
One of the biggest advantages of travelling by motorhome in August is that you don’t need a fixed itinerary. You can start by exploring the coast and, a few days later, end up having breakfast by a mountain lake.
Spain offers a huge variety of landscapes within just a few kilometres. On a single route, you can go from the beaches of the Cantabrian coast to the forests of Navarre or lose yourself amongst the white villages of Andalusia.
It is this constant change of scenery that makes every trip different.
When the heat gets to you, change tack
Many people associate August solely with the beach, but some of the best summer memories are made far from the coast.
The Pyrenees, the Picos de Europa, the Sierra de Cazorla and the Jerte Valley offer much more pleasant temperatures and a different way to enjoy the summer.
Sleeping with the window open, having breakfast surrounded by mountains or ending the day by a river is a luxury that only a few get to experience.
The best trips begin when you leave room for improvisation
There’s something that happens on almost every motorhome trip.
You set off with an idea of the route…
…and you come back talking about places you didn’t even know existed.

A minor road.
A small village where you decide to stop just for a coffee.
It’s those spur-of-the-moment decisions that end up becoming the best memories.
August is also a time to slow down
There’s a feeling that when you’re on holiday, you have to make the most of every minute.
Visit more places.
Take more photos.
To cover more kilometres.
But travelling in a motorhome often teaches you exactly the opposite.
A leisurely breakfast can be the best part of the day.
A sunset can be worth more than a list of monuments.
And that very often, true luxury simply consists of having time.
